Babywearing is simply carrying your baby in a sling or carrier, keeping them close and secure as you go about your day. Many people choose to babywear, whether for convenience, comfort, or simply because it feels right. If you’re here, you probably already have a few reasons in mind for wanting to use a sling or carrier, there’s no “right" reason to babywear. It’s all about finding what works for you. Babywearing can make a significant difference, helping you feel more relaxed and content while keeping your little one happy and close.
From my time running a sling library, and through my own babywearing journey, I’ve noticed some common reasons why people choose to babywear and the benefits they experience along the way. Babies love being held and that’s completely normal! We often see images of babies happily settled in their bouncy chairs or peacefully in their cots, but more often than not, they just want to be close to us and that’s absolutely fine! We also love holding our babies, which makes sense because our instinct tells us to keep them safe and close. Babywearing is also brilliant for helping babies who struggle with sleep, and can even provide relief from things like reflux or colic by keeping them upright. If you’ve got older children, needing your attention, slings can be a lifesaver, and they’re fantastic for dog walks or getting out and about off-road. Babywearing helps build that all-important bond through closeness. It’s so much more than “just” a sling, it’s a wonderful tool that brings us closer to our babies. To really make the most of it, getting a sling that fits just right is key.
Selecting a well-fitting, quality carrier then using it effectively, safely, and confidently can be much easier with expert guidance from the start. That’s where a sling library comes in. With an extensive collection of over a hundred slings and carriers, you’ll have the chance to try out different styles and borrow one to take home—so you can see if it works for you and your child.
